Our target
We build towards the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. That target shapes decisions before a page ships rather than after: the colour palette was chosen against measured contrast ratios, interactive components are built keyboard-first, and every visual state has a non-visual equivalent.
What is in place
- Semantic structure. One
h1per page, headings in order, landmark regions, and lists that are actually lists. - Keyboard operation. Every interactive element is reachable and operable by keyboard, in a logical order, with a visible focus ring that meets contrast requirements. A skip link jumps straight to the main content.
- Contrast. Body text sits at roughly 11:1 against its background; secondary text and interface labels clear 4.5:1; large headings and button labels clear the relevant large-text threshold.
- Colour is never the only signal. Gains and losses carry a sign as well as a colour; status chips carry a word as well as a hue; chart data is duplicated in a screen-reader table where the visual is the primary presentation.
- Motion. Every animation respects
prefers-reduced-motion. With it enabled, entrance animations, the marquee ribbon and chart transitions all stop. - Images and icons. Decorative graphics are hidden from assistive technology; meaningful ones carry text alternatives. Charts carry descriptive labels.
- Zoom and reflow. Layouts use relative units and reflow to 320px without horizontal scrolling; text scales to 200% without loss of content or function.
- No JavaScript dependency for reading. Navigation, footer and page content are server-rendered, so the site is readable and navigable with scripting disabled.
Where we know we fall short
Being honest is more useful than claiming perfection:
- Embedded maps on the contact page come from a third party whose accessibility we do not control. Every office address is also given as plain text immediately above its map.
- Live-updating panels on the Market Desk and the home page refresh without announcing each change, which would be noisy if announced. The underlying values are readable at any time.
- Third-party linked records. The audited account pages we link to are operated by verification platforms and are outside our control.
- Dense data tables on small screens require horizontal scrolling within their own container. The page itself never scrolls sideways.
Assistive technology we test with
We test with recent versions of NVDA and Narrator on Windows, VoiceOver on macOS and iOS, and TalkBack on Android, in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. We also test the whole site with a keyboard only, and with animation disabled at the operating-system level.
Telling us about a barrier
If something on this site blocks you, we want to hear about it and we will treat it as a defect rather than a suggestion. Email [email protected] with the page address, what you were trying to do, and the browser and assistive technology you were using. We aim to acknowledge within two working days and to give you a fix or a timetable within ten.
If our response is not adequate, you may escalate to the accessibility regulator or equality body in your own country.
